Thank You Alumni For Your Generous Contribution to the Final FRHS Graduates

Posted on June 28, 2011

On behalf of Carol and myself I want to thank all of you who contributed to the scholarship fund set up to honor the "Last Graduate" of Far Rockaway High School.  Because of your generosity, two students were chosen by the current Far Rockaway High School administration to receive monetary awards to assist them with college.  The first was Latia Denson who plans to pursue a career in Criminal Justice; the second, Tiara Edmonds, who unfortunately was unable to attend the graduation ceremony.

The FRHS Online Alumni Association was represented by Marty Nislick, Class of 1962, who came up with the original idea of honoring the "Last Graduate".  He was joined by several other alumni who asked to be part of the final graduation.  They were Mary Ann Aita, currently a teacher's aid at FRHS and graduate of the Class of 1975, Barbara Tashoff Saber, former teacher at FRHS for 25 years and graduate of the Class of 1963, and Robert Shapiro, Class of 1955 who volunteered to capture the final graduation on video.

When told that she was receiving one of the scholarships from the alumni, Latia Denson said, "Thank you FRHS Alumni for your very generous gift. I assure you that it will be put to good use.”

Vice Principal Tuwanna Williams-Gray wrote the following to Marty:

I would like to thank the alumni for their contributions to the final class of Far Rockaway High School. The recipients of the awards will definitely use the monetary awards towards their college education. The slideshow was SUPERB! You captured moments that were extremely meaningful and will never be forgotten. I am glad that we had a chance to meet and I must say, I have found a friend of the Far Rockaway Alumni that will be cherished always.  Thanks again.

Principal Denise Hallett remarked of the slide show:

Marty,  How beautiful! I am crying again.  Thank you so very much for joining us, the association’s contribution to our students and your generous gift of these photos which I will always cherish.

Once again, on behalf of the FRHS Online Alumni Association, thank you for your generosity and for keeping the memory and legacy of Far Rockaway High School alive.  Your thoughtfulness and outpouring of support was overwhelming and greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Skip Weinstock, Class of 1963  and Carol Marston, Class of 1956
